Overview

The Hunter X2 Irrigation Controller is a sophisticated device designed for managing automatic irrigation systems. It offers both traditional dial-and-button programming and advanced Wi-Fi connectivity through the Hydrawise™ online software, providing flexibility and convenience for users.

Function Description

The primary function of the X2 controller is to automate the watering of landscapes by controlling irrigation stations (zones). It allows users to set up multiple watering programs, each with specific start times, run times for individual stations, and designated watering days. This ensures efficient water usage and healthy plant growth.

When Wi-Fi is enabled, the controller's physical dial and button functions are disabled, and all programming is managed remotely via the Hydrawise™ online software. This cloud-based system allows for advanced scheduling, real-time adjustments, and remote monitoring of the irrigation system from anywhere with an internet connection. Manual operations like activating a single station, an entire program, or running a test of all stations can still be initiated directly from the controller even when Wi-Fi is active.

The controller features a clear main display that shows critical information such as the program indicator, station running status, sprinkler off days, start time, run time, month, day, rain sensor status, Bluetooth® and Wi-Fi status, days of the week, odd/even/interval watering, time mode (AM/PM/24 HR), and seasonal adjust percentage.

Usage Features

The X2 controller offers a comprehensive set of features for customizing irrigation schedules:

  • Setting Current Date and Time: Users can easily set the current year, month, day, and time (including AM/PM or 24-hour mode) using the dial and buttons.
  • Setting Program Start Times: Multiple start times can be configured for programs A, B, and C, allowing for flexible watering schedules throughout the day. Start times advance in 15-minute increments. Unwanted start times can be eliminated by setting them to "OFF."
  • Setting Station Run Times: Individual run times for each station can be set from 1 minute to 6 hours, ensuring that different areas of the landscape receive appropriate watering.
  • Setting Water Days: The controller supports various watering day configurations, including specific days of the week, odd/even days, or interval watering (e.g., every 2 days).
  • Seasonal Adjust: This feature allows users to globally increase or decrease all run times by a percentage (from 10% to 200%) to adapt to changing local weather conditions without reprogramming each station individually.
  • Pump/Master Valve Control: The controller can be configured to activate a pump or master valve for specific stations, providing flexibility for systems requiring these components.
  • Manual Station Operation: Users can manually run a single station for a specified duration, useful for testing or targeted watering.
  • Manual Program Operation: An entire program can be initiated manually, allowing for immediate watering when needed.
  • One-Touch Manual Start and Advance: This feature provides a quick way to manually start a program and navigate between stations during the manual cycle.
  • Test Program: A dedicated test program runs all stations for a short, user-defined duration, which is helpful for system checks and winterization.
  • System Off: The controller can be set to an "OFF" position to halt all automatic watering.
  • Programmable Rain Off: Users can set the system to remain off for a specified number of days (e.g., after rainfall) and then automatically resume its schedule. This can be canceled if needed.
  • Sensor Bypass: A physical switch allows users to bypass a connected rain sensor, enabling watering even if the sensor detects rain. This is useful for maintenance or when the sensor is temporarily malfunctioning.

Hidden and Advanced Features:

The X2 also includes advanced features accessible through specific button combinations:

  • Programmable Sensor Override: Allows individual stations to ignore sensor shutdowns, providing granular control.
  • Cycle and Soak: This feature divides a station's run time into segments with soak periods in between, preventing runoff on sloped areas or heavy soils.
  • Delay Between Stations: Users can insert a delay between stations in a run time, useful for slow-closing valves or recharging tanks.
  • Hide Programs: Simplifies the interface by hiding unused programs.
  • CLIK-DELAY: Sets the number of days the system remains off after a sensor has been activated and restored.
  • Total Run Time: Calculates and displays the total run time for a program.
  • Easy Retrieve™: Allows users to save and restore all program information, which is invaluable for seasonal changes or after power outages.
  • Total Reset: Returns the controller to factory defaults and erases all schedules and settings.
  • Quick Check™: Performs a diagnostic check on all stations for wiring problems.

Maintenance Features

The X2 controller is designed for ease of use and troubleshooting. The display provides clear error messages (e.g., "ERR" with a number, "P ERR," "SP ERR") to help identify potential issues such as short circuits in field wiring, bad solenoids, or SmartPort® errors. The troubleshooting guide offers solutions for common problems, including checking wiring, solenoids, and water pressure.

For issues like a frozen or garbled display, a simple controller reset is recommended. If the rain sensor does not stop irrigation, users are advised to check the jumper wire and ensure the sensor switch is in the "Active" position. If the controller seems to water continuously, it often indicates too many start times configured for a program.

The device also includes a warning regarding the supply cord: if damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer or a qualified service agent to prevent hazards. For more detailed troubleshooting and information, users are directed to an online help resource.
