ENGINE DISASSEMBLY
Workshop Manual Ed. 12-2011
- Remove the pins (5) and the rocker arms (1).
Mark the position of the pins (5) and of the rocker arms (1) so that
you can ret them exactly in the same position making sure that you
centre correctly the dowel on the pin groove.
During the ret, make sure that the longest dowel (4a) is positioned
on the rocker arm pin exhaust side.
- Use a valve spring compressor to compress the valve springs. Be careful
not too damage the mating surfaces that contact the gasket or those of the
combustion chamber. Make sure the valve spring compressor is aligned
straight on the spring, or you might bend the valve stem. Do not compress
the springs too much or they will weaken.
- Mark all parts to ensure that they are retted in their original positions on
assembly. If the valve collets have caused burrs on the valve stems, remove
them before removing the valves.
- Remove the seals (A) from the valve guides.
- Remember that seals must be replaced on assembly.
- Compress the springs using the valve spring compressor (6).
- Remove valve collets (7), spring retainer (8), springs (9), spring seat (10)
and remove the valve (11) from the opposite end.
Intake and exhaust valves are different, be careful not to confuse
them on assembly.
To unlock the valve, you do not need to uninstall the rocker arms.
