About this book
This book describes how to plan for a new installation of DS8900F. It includes information about planning
requirements and considerations, customization guidance, and conguration worksheets.
Who should use this book
This book is intended for personnel that are involved in planning. Such personnel include IT facilities
managers, individuals responsible for power, cooling, wiring, network, and general site environmental
planning and setup.
Conventions and terminology
Different typefaces are used in this guide to show emphasis, and various notices are used to highlight key
information.
The following typefaces are used to show emphasis:
Typeface Description
Bold Text in bold represents menu items.
bold monospace Text in bold monospace represents command names.
Italics Text in italics is used to emphasize a word. In command syntax, it is used for
variables for which you supply actual values, such as a default directory or
the name of a system.
Monospace Text in monospace identies the data or commands that you type, samples of
command output, examples of program code or messages from the system,
or names of command flags, parameters, arguments, and name-value pairs.
These notices are used to highlight key information:

Note These notices provide important tips, guidance, or advice.
Important These notices provide information or advice that might help you avoid
inconvenient or difcult situations.
Attention These notices indicate possible damage to programs, devices, or data. An
attention notice is placed before the instruction or situation in which damage
can occur.

Product guides, other IBM publications, and websites contain information that relates to the IBM DS8000
series.
