Step 1.1: Establishing a CPC Console Connection and Power-on Reset
To prepare the system for building an IOCDS, you must establish a CPC console connection and perform
a power-on reset.
CPC Console Connection
Note: The following procedure assumes that the Support Element was configured to the Hardware
Management Console during installation.
1. Ensure that you are logged on in System Programmer mode, refer to “Logon Procedure (System
Programmer Mode)” on page 2-4.
2. Open Task List from the Views area
3. Open CPC Recovery from the Task List Work Area
4. Open Groups from the Views area
5. Open Defined CPC's from the Groups Work Area
6. Drag and drop the CPC object on Single Object Operations in the CPC Recovery area.
The Single Object Operations Confirmation panel displays.
7. Select Yes.
The Support Element Workplace panel displays.

You now have a CPC console connection via the Support Element workplace. The Support Element
workplace is very similar to the Hardware Management Console workplace. The background of the Work
area and Tasks area for the Support Element contains the IBM logo. This will help you determine whether
you are working with the Hardware Management Console or Support Element workplace.
Use the Support Element workplace to perform tasks until you are directed to log off from the CPC.
