specifyothermethodsofcleaning.Verifywiththebatterymanufacturer’swebsitethe
correctcleaningmethodbeforeundertakinganycleaning.
Battery electrolyte uid is dangerous. It contains sulfuric acid, which is poisonous,
corrosive and caustic. If electrolyte is spilled or placed on any part of the human
body, immediately ush the area with large amounts of clean water and seek
medical aid.
• Useabatteryterminalcleaningbrushtoremovecorrosionfromtheinsideofthebat-
teryterminals.Cleantheterminalswithawater-and-baking-sodasolutionandrinse.
• Reconnectthepositiveterminalfirst,andthenthenegative.Tightentheterminals.
Coatbothterminalscompletelywithathincoveringofmarinegreasetoprotectagainst
wateroranypotentiallycorrosivesubstance.Besurethattherubberbootcoversthe
positiveterminalcompletely.
Note: The MV8 engine was designed to work with the standard electronics installed
in the boat. If other electrical components or accessories are added, it may change
the way the fuel injection controls the engine or the overall electrical system func-
tionality. Before adding electrical equipment, consult an authorized ILMOR dealer.
If you do not, your engine may not perform properly.
Add-on equipment may adversely affect the alternator output or overload the electri-
cal system. Any damage caused as a result will not be covered by the warranty.
When charging, batteries generate small amounts of dangerous hydrogen gas. This
gas is highly explosive. Keep all sparks, ames and smoking well away from the area.
Failure to follow instructions when charging a battery can cause an electrical charge or
even an explosion of the battery. This could result in serious injury or death.

Beforedisconnectingthebattery,besurethattheignitionkeyandallaccessoriesare
intheOFFposition.Also,takecaretore-attachbatterycablescorrectlytoavoidreversed
polarity,whichisaddressedintheElectricalSystemportionoftheIntroducing the MV8
EnginechapterofthisOwner’sManual.
Because this process should be completed while the engine is cool (in order to avoid burns), it is
recommended that this check be completed prior to starting the engine.
• EnsuretheengineisOFFandtheenginesafetystartingswitchisdisconnected.Leave
thethrottle/shiftcontrolleverinneutral.Opentheenginecompartmentandvisually
inspecttheengine.
