Each boat equippedwithanILMORMV8enginewillhaveahangtagwith
theFourStarboxcheck-marked.Itistheresponsibilityofthesellingdealertoincludethe
hangtag,anditmustbemarkedinthecorrectboxtomatchtheFourStarlabelontheen-
gineandtheboat.Thedealermustdisplaythehangtaginavisiblelocationontheboatprior
todisplayingtheboatforsaleinCalifornia.Ifonlytheengineisdisplayed,ahangtagmust
stillbeplacedinavisiblelocationontheengine.Failuretocorrectlydisplaythehangtag
mayresultinacitationandpossiblefinetothedealer.TheseareissuedbytheCaliforniaAir
ResourcesBoard.
All ILMOR MV8 enginesareequippedwithmarineon-boarddiagnos-
ticstocomplywiththe2009California-mandatedOBD-Mdiagnosticspecification.The
MalfunctionIndicatorLamp(MIL)oraCheckEnginewarningwillappearonthedash
whenemissionsystemproblemsoccurontheboat.
IftheMILissetduetoanemissions-relatedfault,aDiagnosticTroubleCode(DTC)
willset.TheMILfunctionstonotifytheoperatorthataproblemhasoccurredsothat
the owner/operator can arrange for service as soon as possible, andalso to display
DTCsthathavebeenstored.Thisinformationaboutsystemmalfunctionassiststheser-
vicetechnicianinquicklydiagnosingsystemissues.WhentheMILlights,theowner/
operatorshouldcontactanauthorizedILMORdealtoarrangeadiagnosticscanatthe
earliestpossibleopportunity.
DTCsarestoredintheenginecontrolunitmemoryandcanberetrievedwithan
ILMORMarineversionscantoolorthroughDiacomPCSoftware.Thatiswhyitis
necessarytoseekassistancefromtheappropriatedealer.
TheDiagnosticScanToolwillbeconnectedtotheDataLinkConnector(DLC);aflat
6-pinconnector.Theconnectorislocatedontheportforwardsectionoftheintakemani-
foldandisusuallymarkedwitheitherDLCorDataLinkConnectorjustbehindtheplug.
NotethattheprotectiveDLCcovermustberemovedpriortoconnectingtheScanTool.
