Start the engineandallowittowarmuptothenormaloperatingtempera-
tureof140F.(60C.)Thiswillrequireapproximatelyfifteen(15)minutesandshouldbe
doneinthelow-idle(600to800rpmasmeasuredonthetachometer)mode.
Movethethrottle/shiftcontrolleverforward,smoothlyandquickly,toplaningspeed.
Thenreturnthethrottlebacktoaslowerspeed,butonethatcontinuestheplane.Varythe
enginespeedbutdonotexceed3,000rpmforthefirsthour,andcarryonlyalightload.
Afterthefirsthour,therpmmaynotexceed5,200rpmforthe5.7Lor5,400rpmforthe
6.0Land6.2Lengines.Reducethethrottle/shiftcontrollevertoidle(neutral)occasionally
foracool-downperiod.
The boat MUSTbereturnedtothe authorizedILMORdealerforamandatoryoil
changebetweenten(10)andtwenty-five(25)hoursofoperation.Thisensurestheservice
staffwillbeabletodeterminewhetheranyinternalissuesmaybeapparent.
After the break-in and oil changehavebeencompleted,theengine
maybeoperatedmorecontinuouslyatspeed,butneverbeyondthemaximum,anditisal-
waysadvisabletogivetheengineanoccasionalcool-downperiod.Forthe5.7Lengine,the
maximumis5,200rpm;forthe6.0L,themaximumis5,400rpm;andforthe6.2L,the
maximumis5,400rpm.
Throughoutthelifeoftheengine,alwaysallowitawarm-upperiodbeforeoperation.
Abuseoftheengineandtransmissionarenevercoveredunderwarranty.Regularmainte-
nanceasoutlinedinthisOwner’sManualisveryimportanttoensuringalong,trouble-free
enginelife.
Subsequentoilchangesshouldbedoneevery50hoursorquarterlyiftheboatisnot
usedregularly.SeetheMaintenancesectionofthisOwner’sManualformoredetails.
Failure to follow the engine oil recommendations listed in the manual can cause accel-
erated engine wear and could result in component failure. Damage to the engine due
to incorrect oil usage, oil changes and correct levels may void the warranty.
AfterperformingallthechecksandinspectionsoutlinedinthisOwner’sManual,liftthe
enginecompartmentcover.
Operatethebilgeblowerforatleastfour(4)minuteswiththeenginecompartment
coveropen.LeavethebilgeblowerONthroughoutthestartingprocessanduntiltheboat
hasplaned.
Operate the bilge blower for at least four (4) minutes before starting the engine, and
always when at idle or slow-running speed. Explosive gasoline and/or battery fumes
may be in the engine compartment. Failure to operate the bilge blower as directed may
result in explosion or re, resulting in serious injury or death. Always, before starting
the engine, open the engine compartment and check for fumes, leaks or the presence
of uids in the bilge.
Note: Always start the engine with the throttle/shift control lever in the neutral
position. The boat is equipped with a neutral-start safety switch that will not allow
engines to start while in gear.
