Install the load cell
Product Support: www.instron.com
1. Refer to Figure 19 on page 80 and its associated legend.
2. Assemble the mechanical tensioner (52-2-82) with its matching washer onto one end
of the threaded rod (T620-978) as shown in the figure.
3. Place the assembly into the top of the central bore of the crosshead.
4. Insert the anti-rotation pin into one of the holes on the bottom of the crosshead.
There are four pin holes on the bottom of the crosshead that let you position the load
cell either straight on or at an angle.
5. Place the locating ring into the top surface of the load cell that connects to the cross-
head.
6. Place the load cell against the bottom of the crosshead, ensuring that the anti-rota-
tion pin and locating ring fit securely in place against both the crosshead and load
cell. Place the cable to the left side of the column.
7. Tighten the mounting assembly by hand so that it secures the load cell underneath
the crosshead.
Caution
Make sure that the tensioner assembly is in contact with the crosshead before
tightening any of the set screws on the assembly.
8. Lower the crosshead to a position below the center of the travel range to prevent
tipping.
9. Use the torque wrench (80-9-11) with the matching 5 mm hex drive socket (67-4-29)
supplied in the mechanical tensioner kit (A636-160) to tighten the four set screws
(shown in Figure 5) on the mechanical tensioner to 14 N-m (10.3 ft-lb) according to
