Choose a soft, lightweight fabric such as batiste,
gingham or challis. Cut the fabric three times wider than
the projected width.
Sew rows of straight stitches, 1.2-1.5 cm (1/2˝) apart with
the stitch length “3.0” to “5.0” and thread tension dial at “1
to across the area to be smocked.

Tie the threads along one edge. From the other edge,
pull the bobbin threads to distribute the gathers evenly.
NOTE:
Pull up the bobbin thread and draw a 10 cm ()
thread tail to the back before starting to sew.
Use the thread cutter on the face plate.
x Sew down the left side, guiding the fabric so the right
hand stitches fall in open space. After nishing the left
side, press the mirror image key. Sew down the other
side (refer to page 85 for mirror image sewing).

c Remove the yarn or fabric threads between the
stitching.
Select a smocking stitch and return the thread tension
dial to 3-6.
Sew the smocking stitches between the gathered rows.
Remove the straight stitches between the gathered rows.
