Theueandchimneymustbeinspectedbeforeinstallationtoensurethatitissuitablefortheappliancebeing
tted.ChimneyanduesystemsmustmeettherequirementsoftheBuildingRegulationsDocumentJ.
Soundness of Flue
Theuemustbesoundandfreefromcracksandobstructions.Newuesshouldbelined.
All ues should be swept clean prior toinstallation and inspected for soundness and freedom from
blockages.
Anyuelinermustcomplywiththetestrequirementsforuelinersforusewithburningsolidmineralfuels.
Flue Size / Dimensions
Weatherthechimneyisoldorisnewlybuilt,itsdimensionsmustbeadequatetosupportthesizeofretobe
installed.Thelargerthere,thegreaterthesizeofueandthetallerthechimneyrequired.Whenspecifyingue
liners, ensure that the important internal dimensions are stated.
Theminimumheightofanyuemustbe4.5mmeasuredfromthetopoftheretothetopoftheue.Seethe
installationdatatableforrecommendeduesizeandminimumchimneyheight.
Fluelinersoruepipeusedmustbeofthecorrectsizeforthereandmustbesuitableforusewithsolidfuel
res.Fluepipesofaluminiumorasbestosmaynotbeused,normayexiblepipesofaluminiumorsinglewall
stainless steel.
Theuemustnotbeusedforanyotherapplianceorapplication.
Use of Existing Chimneys
Thesemustbesweptandinspectedfordimensionsandsoundnessbeforestartingtoinstallthere.Existingue
linersshouldbeinspectedandreplacedifrequired.Iftheuehaspreviouslybeenusedwithanopenrethen
itshouldbesweptaftertherstmonthofusingitwiththestovetted.Thiswillclearanyloosesootdeposits
fromprevious“open”reburning.
