5. Place the extension module in an anstac bag or on an anstac mat placed on a at, stable
surface.
6. If you are not replacing the extension module, install the cover over the empty slot.
NOTE: Aer you have removed an extension module, wait for at least 10 seconds before you
install an extension module. If you do not wait for at least 10 seconds, the interfaces on the
extension module might not come up.
Install an Extension Module in an EX4400 Switch
Before you begin installing an extension module in the switch:
• Ensure that you have taken the necessary precauons to prevent ESD damage (see Prevenon of
Electrostac Discharge Damage).
• Ensure that you have the following parts and tools available:
• Number 2 Phillips (+) screwdriver—not provided
• An ESD grounding strap—not provided (If a grounding strap is not available, follow the alternave
grounding method described in Step 1 of the following procedure.)
You can install an extension module in the front panel of an EX4400 switch. The extension module in
EX4400 switches is a hot-removable and hot-insertable unit (FRU). You can remove and replace an
extension module without powering o the switch.
