Focusing
AUTO FOCUS
The camcorder's Full Range AF system offers continuous
shooting ability from close-up to infinity. Howevel_ correct
k>cus may not be obtainable in the situations listed below
(in these cases use manual focusing):
• When two subjects overlap in the same scene.
°When illumination is low.*
• When the subject has no contrast (difference in bright-
ness and darl<ness), such as a flat, one-color wall, or a
clear, blue sky.*
• When a darl< object is barely visible in the viewfinder.*
• When the scene contains minute patterns or identical
patterns that are regularly repeated.
• When the scene is affected by sunbeams or light
reflecting off the surt\_ce of a body of water.
• When shooting a scene with a high-contrast bacl<grou nd.
• The low-contrast warning "*i -°-" appears
MANUAL FOCUS
Ityou are using the viewfirlder, you should already have
made the necessary viewfinder adjustments (_ / p_. 1_).
Set the Power Switch to "PRO.".
Press the Select Wheel to display the Menu Screen.
Rotate the Select Wheel to move the highlight bar to
"FO( US" and press it. The FO(US Menu appears.
Rotate the Select Wheel to move the highlight bar to
"MANU", then press it. The Menu Screen disappears and
"_" and ,,e,,,_, appear. The focus is Iocl<ed at this point.
To focus on a farther subject, rotate the Select Wheel
upward. "4" appears and blinks.
To focus on a nearer subject, rotate the Select Wheel
downward. "• " appears and blinks.
Press the Select Wheel. The setting is complete. The
Menu Screen reappears with the highlight bar on
"RETU RN".
Press the Select Wheel. The Menu Screen disppears
and "@e,, reappears to indicate the focus is Iocl<ed.
NOTES:
• To return t_ Auto Focus, select "AUTC)" in step 4.
• To re-adjust Marlual Focus, repeat the pn;cedure fron'l stop 2.
• Be sure to focus the lens irl the maximum telephoto position wherl you use the Marlual F_>cus mode. Ityou
f_*cus irl orl a certairl subject irl the wide-angle positiorl, sharply focused images carlrlot be obtairled wherl
zoomed irl because the depth-olLfield is reduced at longer focal lengths.
