6.4.5 Sample calculation for a pipe network
Specifications:
A building with the ground plan shown is to receive
a stationary high-pressure system.
Of the 11 access points, 8 should be able to dis-
pense high-pressure water simultaneously.
The extraction volume per access point is 950 l/h.
The desired pressure range at the extraction points
is 80 bar.
High-pressure supply
O extraction points
Step 1: Selecting the supply unit
8 x 950 l/h = 7,600 l/h
The pump capacity must be 7,600 l/h. The supply unit
HD 80/16 with 8,000 l/h and 80 bar is selected.
If a maximum pressure loss of 15% is assumed, not
more than 12 bar may be lost on the way from the sup-
ply unit to the furthermost extraction point.
Step 2: Location of the supply unit
The aim is to plan the pipe network as short as
possible. A prerequisite for this is the central loca-
tion of the supply unit.
With an eye towards the overall costs of the sys-
tem, the entire surface to be cleaned should be
covered with a minimum number of
extraction points.
As a guideline, an optimum hose length of 10 metres
per extraction point can be assumed.
Note:
When designing the pipe network, areas where
no pipes can be installed, e.g. cold rooms, must
be considered.
Step 3: Dimensioning of the pipes
First, the pipes are dimensioned in accordance with
diagram 1. For this purpose, the maximum water flow
for each section is determined.
