10.2 Diagnostics with the aid of the internal
oscilloscope
10.2.1 Standard parameters
In addition to the standard parameters that are also available on the oscilloscope in
conjunction with the SERCOS II option card, with SERCOS III there are the following
additional standard parameters:
y IDN-S-1044.0.0 : Device control word
y IDN-S-1045.0.0 : Device status word
y IDN-S-1050.0.8 : Connection control
y IDN-S-1050.1.8 : Connection control
The device control / status word parameters are used for handling the topology in the
bus. The device control / status word is transmitted with each bus cycle and is a xed
part of the MDT or AT; the two parameters described here are only an image of the
device status / control word and are used for diagnostic purposes!
The topology in a slave can be specically changed with the aid of the device control
word. This action is necessary, e.g. if a new slave is to be added to the bus (hot
plugging) or the master wants to close the ring again after the detection of a ring break.
The individual bits have the following signicance:
Bit no. Description
15 Identication
14 Toggle bit, master sends new topology
13 – 12 Topology specied by the master
00 : Fast forward on both ports
01 : Loopback & forward P telegrams
10 : Loopback & forward S telegrams
11 : Reserved
11 – 0 Reserved

With the aid of the device status word, the slave signals its actual topology as well as
communication errors, e.g. a ring break.
The individual bits have the following signicance:
Bit no. Description
15 Communication warning
14 Toggle bit, slave has applied new topology
13 – 12 Topology status
00 : Fast forward on both ports
01 : Loopback & forward P telegrams
10 : Loopback & forward S telegrams
11 : NRT mode
11 – 10 Status on the inactive port
00 : No link on the inactive port
01 : Link on the inactive port
10 : P telegram on the inactive port
11 : S telegram on the inactive port
9 Connection error
8 Slave data valid (0 during phase change)
7 – 6 Reserved
5 Command status bit
4 Parameter conguration – level
3 – 0 Reserved

The connection control word is also a xed part of the MDT. The parameter described
here is an image of the connection control word and is used for diagnostic purposes.
