BUTTERSCOTCH BROWNIES APPLE WALNUT BARS

fTere's a variation on the ever-popular brownie theme.
With their butter and brown sugar, butterscotch
brownies are reminiscent of caramel.
Premeasure ingredient groups (sift together
ingredient Group D). Place in bowls near Bread Machine.
All ingredients must be at room temperature.
A 1/4 cup butter/margarine
1 cup dark brown sugar, packed
B 1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
C 1/2 cup choppedpecans
D 1/2 cup unbleached all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoonbakingpowder
[] Place ingredient Group A in pan. Press
SELECT for Mixing. Press START. Mix for I minute,
scraping down sides of pan with spatula if necessary.
[] Add ingredient Group B. Mix for i minute, scraping
down sides of pan if necessary.
[] Add ingredient Group C, then gradually add ingredient
Group D. Mix for up to 1 minute, scraping down sides
of pan if necessary. Press CLEAR/STOP when dough
appears to be well blended. Do not overmix.
[] Quickly and carefully remove the pan from the Bread
Machine and invert over greased 8-inch square pan.
Scrape batter into pan, spreading evenly. Bake in
350°F preheated oven 30 minutes. Yield: 16 squares
These bar cookies will fill your kitchen with wonderful
aroma.

SELECT for Mixing. Press START. Mix for 1 minute,
scraping down sides of pan with spatula if necessary.
[] Add ingredient Group B. Mix for I minute, scraping
down sides of pan if necessary.
[] Add ingredient Group C, then gradually add ingredient
Group D. Mix for I to 1 1/2minutes or until well
blended, scraping down sides of pan if necessary. Press
CLEAR/STOP. Do not overmix.
[] Quickly and carefully remove the pan from the Bread
Machine and invert over a greased 13- by 9-inch pan.
Scrape batter into pan, spreading evenly. Bake in
325°F preheated oven 45 minutes. Yield: 24 squares
