6.1 Extending the Battery Life
The TH-D74A/E is equipped with a wide variety of hardware devices. You can minimize
battery power consumption by turning off features that are not used or adjust the setting to
reduce power consumption.
Disable GPS 6.1.1
The built-in GPS receiver is enabled by default. The user may turn off the GPS if not
needed.

Note: Purchase of this tray default the transceiver is shipped with the GPS enabled this will
allow the radio to update the clock after a GPS.
Disable Bluetooth 6.1.2
To conserve power consumption if not need to turn off Bluetooth.

Backlight Adjustment 6.1.3
The LCD and keypad backlight consume a great deal of power if left on all the time. Battery
life may be enhanced by using the following backlight adjustments.
Set Backlight Control to Auto or Auto (DC-IN).
When the transceiver is running on battery power, you can select "Auto" or "Auto (DC-IN)"
to turn on the backlight by operating the panel key. The backlight will turn off automatically
after the time interval configured in "Backlight Timer" has elapsed.

Reduce the brightness of the backlight (LCD Brightness).

Utilize the Battery Saver feature 6.1.4
The Battery Saver feature turns the receiver circuit on and off intermittently when no signal
is received and no key is pressed for an interval of five (5) seconds. The interval for the
receiver circuit to remain off while in the Battery Saver mode may be adjusted in the menu.
Setting the off time to a longer duration helps to conserve battery power. However, note
that the beginning of the received audio may be truncated if the off time is too long.

Note 1: When the DV/DR mode is set to ON, the off duration of the receiver circuit will be
automatically fixed at 200 ms.
Note 2: The Battery Saver feature is disabled when the APRS or KISS mode is set to ON.
Disable Busy Indicator 6.1.5
When a radio signal is received, the Busy indicator (green LED) lights up. Turning off the
Busy indicator will help to reduce battery consumption.

Note: It is recommended that the Busy indicator setting in Menu No. 181 be set to “OFF”
especially during FM radio broadcast when radio signals are received continuously.
