1.Youcangoupanddownstairsbytakingthemonestep
atatime,asdescribedabove.Therstassistantshould
standbehindthewheelchairholdingthepushhandles.
Thesecondassistantshouldholdasolidpartofthe
frontframetosteadythewheelchairfromthefront.
6.7Negotiatingrampsandslopes
WARNING!
Riskduetowheelchairbeingoutofcontrol
Whennegotiatingslopesorgradientsyour
wheelchaircouldtipbackwards,forwardsor
sideways.
–Alwayshaveanassistantbehindthewheelchair
whenapproachinglongslopes.
–Avoidlateralslopes.
–Avoidslopesofmorethan7°.
–Avoidjerkingwhenchangingdirectionona
slope.
CAUTION!
Yourwheelchaircouldrunawayevenonslightly
slopinggroundifyoudonotcontrolitusingthe
handrims.
–Usetheparkingbrakesifyourwheelchairis
stationaryonslopingground.
Goingupslopes
Togoupaslope,youmustcreatesomemomentum,keepup
themomentumandcontrolthedirectionatthesametime.
