Toupdate(ash)theBIOSfromyouroperatingsystem,dothefollowing:
1.Gotohttp://www.lenovo.com/support.
2.ClickDownloadDrivers&Software.
3.ClickUseQuickPath.
4.Typethe4-digitmachinetypeforyourcomputerintheQuickPatheldandthenclickFindMyProduct.
5.ClickBIOS.
6.LocatetheBIOSversionthatyouwanttodownload.
7.ClickClickforles.Allavailableleswillbedisplayed.
8.Clickthelinkforthereadmelethatcontainstheinstructionsforupdating(ashing)theBIOSfrom
youroperatingsystem.
9.Printtheseinstructions.Thisisveryimportantbecausetheseinstructionswillnotbedisplayedon
thescreenafterthedownloadbegins.
10.Followtheprintedinstructionstodownload,extract,andinstalltheupdate.
RecoveringfromaPOST/BIOSupdatefailure
IfthepowertoyourcomputerisinterruptedwhilethePOSTandBIOSisbeingupdated,yourcomputer
mightnotrestartcorrectly.Ifthishappens,performthefollowingproceduretorecoverfromthePOSTand
BIOSupdatefailure.ThisprocedureiscommonlycalledBoot-blockRecovery.
1.Removeallmediafromthedrivesandturnoffallattacheddevicesandthecomputer.Then,disconnect
allpowercordsfromelectricaloutletsanddisconnectallcablesthatareconnectedtothecomputer.
2.Removethecomputercover.See“Removingthecomputercover”onpage38.
3.LocatetheClearCMOS/Recoveryjumperonthesystemboard.See“Locatingpartsonthesystem
board”onpage13.
4.RemoveanycablesthatimpedeaccesstotheClearCMOS/Recoveryjumper.
5.Movethejumperfromthestandardposition(pin1andpin2)tothemaintenanceposition(pin2and
pin3).
6.ReconnectanycablesthatweredisconnectedandreinstallthePCIExpresscardifremoved.
7.Reinstallthecomputercoverandreconnectthepowercordsforthecomputerandmonitortoelectrical
outlets.See“Completingthepartsreplacement”onpage78.
8.TurnonthecomputerandtheninsertthePOSTandBIOSupdate(ashupdate)discintotheoptical
drive.Waitafewminutes.Then,therecoverysessionbegins.Therecoverysessionwilltaketwoto
threeminutes.Duringthistime,awarningmessagewillbedisplayedandnoactionisneededfromyou.
9.Aftertherecoverysessioniscompleted,therewillbenovideo,andyourcomputerwillautomatically
turnoff.
10.Repeatstep1throughstep4.
11.MovetheClearCMOS/Recoveryjumperbacktothestandardposition(pin1andpin2).
12.ReconnectanycablesthatweredisconnectedandreinstallthePCIExpresscardifremoved.
13.Reinstallthecomputercoverandreconnectanycablesthatweredisconnected.
14.Turnonthecomputertorestarttheoperatingsystem.
