Whileitisimportanttoprotectles,data,andsettingsthatareontheharddiskdriveorsolidstatedrive,

youalsomightneedtoinstallanewoperatingsystem,installnewdevicedrivers,updateyoursystemUEFI

BIOS,orrecoverpreinstalledsoftware.Thisinformationwillhelpyouhandleyourcomputerwithproper

careandkeepitintopworkingshape.

Installinganewoperatingsystem

Ifyouinstallanewoperatingsysteminyourcomputer,youneedtoinstallthesupplementlesandThinkPad

devicedriversforitatthesametime.Thenecessarylesarelocatedinthefollowingdirectoriesofyoursolid

statedriveorharddiskdrive:

•ThesupplementlesfortheoperatingsystemsupportedareintheC:\SWTOOLS\OSFIXESdirectory.

•ThedevicedriversfortheoperatingsystemsupportedareintheC:\SWTOOLS\DRIVERSdirectory.

•ThepreloadedsoftwareapplicationsareintheC:\SWTOOLS\APPSdirectory.

Notes:

•Theprocessofinstallingthenewoperatingsystemdeletesallthedataonyourharddiskdrive,including

backupsorimagesthatwerestoredinahiddenfolderbyuseoftheOneKeyRecoveryProprogram.

•Ifyoucannotndthesupplementles,thedevicedrivers,andapplicationsoftwareyouneedonyour

harddiskdrive,orifyouwanttoreceiveupdatesandthelatestinformationaboutthem,goto:

Beforeyoubegin

Beforeyouinstalltheoperatingsystem,dothefollowing:

•CopyallthesubdirectoriesandlesintheC:\SWTOOLSdirectorytoaremovablestoragedevice,toavoid

losinglesduringtheinstallation.

•Printtheinstructionsyouwilluse.

Notes:

–TheUEFIBIOSfeaturesaresupportedonlyonthe64-bitversionoftheWindows7operatingsystem.

–IfyouwanttostartWindowsRecoveryEnvironment(WinRE)usingthe64-bitversionoftheMicrosoft

WindowsInstallationDVD,youshouldnotchangetheinitialUEFI/LegacyBootsettinginThinkPad

Setup.TheUEFI/LegacyBootsettingmustbethesameasitwaswhentheWindowsoperating

systemimagewasinstalled.Otherwise,youwillseeanerror.

CAUTION:

IfyourcomputerisequippedwithbothaharddiskdriveandanmSATAsolidstatedrive,youarenot

recommendedtousethemSATAsolidstatedriveasabootabledevice.ThemSATAsolidstatedriveis

designedanddevelopedfor"cache"functionpurposeonly.IfyouusethemSATAsolidstatedriveas

abootabledevice,itsreliabilityisnotguaranteed.
