TheThinkServerEasyStartupprogramsimpliestheprocessofconguringsupportedRAIDandinstalling
supportedWindowsandLinuxoperatingsystemsanddevicedriversonyourserver.Theuserguideforthe
programcanbeaccesseddirectlyfromtheprograminterface.
TheThinkServerEasyStartupprogramhasthefollowingfeaturesforRAIDconguration:

•AutomaticallydetectshardwareandlistsallsupportedRAIDcongurations
•Conguresoneormorediskarrayspercontrollerdependingonthenumberofdrivesattachedtothe
controllerandtheRAIDlevelselected

•CreatesaRAIDresponselethatcanbeusedtocongureRAIDcontrollersonsimilarlycongured

SomeRAIDmanagementsoftwarealsoisprovidedontheThinkServerEasyStartupDVDtohelpyoumanage
RAIDarraysandRAIDcontrollersinanoperatingsystemenvironment.Afteryouentertheoperatingsystem,
inserttheThinkServerEasyStartupDVDintotheopticaldrive.Theinstallationpackagesfortheprograms
arelocatedintheUtilitiesandOthersfolderintherootdirectoryoftheDVD.TheThinkServerEasyStartup
DVDisdesignedfordifferenttypesofserversandtheUtilitiesandOthersfoldermightcontainadditional
installationpackagesthatarenotrequiredtobeinstalledonyourserver.
ConguringtheThinkServerRAID300
TheThinkServerRAID300(alsoknownasonboardSASsoftwareRAID)isintegratedinthePCHon
thesystemboard.Ifyouconnectthemini-SAStomini-SASsignalcablesfromthesystemboardtothe
backplane,youcancongureRAIDfortheharddiskdrivesusingtheLSISoftwareRAIDCongurationUtility
program,independentlyoftheoperatingsystem.TheThinkServerRAID300supportsRAIDlevels0,1,and
10bydefault.YoualsocanactivateRAID5byinstallingaThinkServerRAID300UpgradeKeyforAdvanced

YoucaninstallandusetheMegaRAIDStorageManagerprogramtomanagetheRAIDarrayandRAID
controllerinanoperatingsystemenvironment.
BeforeconguringRAIDforyourserver,observethefollowingprecautions:
•Useharddiskdrivesthatareofthesametype(SATAorSAS)andhavethesamecapacitywithina
singleRAIDarray.
•ThetotaldrivecapacityoftheprimaryRAIDarraymightbelimitedto2TB.
RAIDarraystatus
Whenyouturnontheserver,theRAIDcontrollerROMversion,theRAIDarraystatus,andthelistofthe
availableharddiskdriveswillbedisplayedduringthePOST.
TheRAIDarraystatuscanbeoneofthefollowing:
•Online
Thisisthenormalstatus,whichindicatesthattheRAIDarrayisworkingcorrectly.
•Degrade
