Systemreliabilityguidelines
Tohelpensurepropercoolingandsystemreliability,strictlyfollowtheseguidelines:
Eachofthedrivebayshasadriveoradummytrayinstalled;orthereisanelectromagneticinterface(EMI)
protectivepanelorEMIshieldinstalledtoprotectthedrivecage.
Iftheserversupportshot-swapredundantpowersupplies,eachofthepowersupplybayhasaredundant
powersupplyinstalled,oronebayhasaredundantpowersupplyinstalledwhiletheotherbayiscovered
byashield.
Leaveadequatespacearoundtheservertoensurethattheservercoolingsystemworkswell.Leave
approximately50mm(2inches)ofopenspacearoundthefrontandrearoftheserver.Donotplace
objectsinfrontofthefans.Forpropercoolingandairow,installtheservercoverbeforeyouturnon
theserver.Operatingtheserverforextendedperiodsoftime(morethan30minutes)withtheserver
coverremovedmightdamageservercomponents.
Properlyroutethecables.Forsomeoptions,suchasPCIcards,followthecablinginstructionsthatcome
withtheoptionsinadditiontotheinstructionsinthismanual.
Whenreplacingahot-swapdrive,installthenewhot-swapdrivewithintwominutesofremoval.
Ifyourserverhasairductsorairbafes,donotremovethemwhiletheserverisrunning.Operatingthe
serverwithouttheairductsorairbafesmightcausethemicroprocessorstooverheat.
Forserversthatsupportuptotwomicroprocessors,ensurethatthesecondmicroprocessorsocket
alwayscontainsamicroprocessororisprotectedbyamicroprocessorsocketcover.
Workinginsidetheserverwiththepoweron
Attention:Staticelectricitythatisreleasedtointernalservercomponentswhentheserveristurnedonmightcause
theservertohalt,whichmightresultinthelossofdata.Toavoidthispotentialproblem,alwaysuseanESDwriststrap
orothergroundingsystemwhenyouworkinsidetheserverwiththepoweron.
Theserversupportshot-swapdevicesandisdesignedtooperatesafelywhileitisturnedonandthecoveris
removed.Followtheseguidelineswhenyouworkinsidetheserverwiththepoweron:
Avoidwearingloose-ttingclothingonyourforearms.Buttonlong-sleevedshirtsbeforeworkinginside
theserver;donotwearcufflinkswhileyouareworkinginsidetheserver.
Donotallowyournecktieorscarftohanginsidetheserver.
Removejewelry,suchasbracelets,necklaces,rings,andloose-ttingwristwatches.
Removeitemsfromyourshirtpocket,suchaspensandpencils.Theseitemsmightfallintotheserveras
youleanoverit.
Avoiddroppinganymetallicobjectsintotheserver,suchaspaperclips,hairpins,andscrews.
