Beforeinstallinganoperatingsysteminlegacymode,downloadyourdesireddriverfromtheLenovoWeb
siteathttp://www.lenovo.com/drivers.Then,copythedrivertoaUSBstoragedevice.
Iftheoperatingsystemisinstalledonastorageareanetwork(SAN),downloadthedriverforthehostbus
adapter(HBA)orconvergednetworkadapter(CNA)thatisconnectedtotheSAN.Then,copythedriverto
aUSBstoragedevice.
Notes:
•Y oucanloaddriverfilesusingaUSBstoragedeviceoradisc.Thestepsinthisdocumentarebasedon
thescenariothatyouuseaUSBstoragedevicetoloaddriverfiles.IftheUSBstoragedevicefailstoload
driverfiles,tryusingadisc.
•Dependingontheconfiguration,youmightinstalltheoperatingsystemonaSANoraharddiskdrive.For
MicrosoftWindowsoperatingsystems,thetwoinstallationproceduresarethesame.
•Settheopticaldrivethatyouwanttouseasthefirststartupdevice.Dependingontheservermodel,an
externalopticaldrivemightberequired.
ConfiguringtheBIOSsetting
Beforeinstallinganoperatingsysteminlegacymode,configuretheBIOSsettingbydoingthefollowing:
1.StarttheSetupUtilityprogram.
2.OntheBootManagermenu,selectMiscellaneousBootSettingsandpressEnter.
3.OntheStorageOpROMpolicymenu,selectLegacyonly.
InstallingtheMicrosoftWindowsServer2008R2operatingsystemwith
ServicePack1

ToinstalltheMicrosoftWindowsServer2008R2operatingsystemwithServicePack1,dothefollowing:
1.Inserttheoperatingsysteminstallationdiscintotheopticaldrivethatyouhavesetasthefirststartup
device.Then,starttheserverfromtheopticaldrive.
2.IfthemessagePressanykeytobootfromCDorDVDisdisplayed,pressanykey.IfthemessageWindows
Setup[EMSEnabled]isdisplayed,pressEnter.Waitseveralminutesforthesystemtoloadthefiles.
3.WhentheEnteryourlanguageandotherpreferenceswindowisdisplayed,configurethelanguageand
otheroptionsasyouneedandthenclickNext.
4.ClickInstallnow.
5.Selecttheoperatingsystemthatyouwanttoinstall.Then,clickNext.
Note:IfyouareinstallingtheMicrosoftWindowsServer2008R2FoundationsEditionwithService
Pack1,skipthisstep.
6.ReadthelicensetermsandselectIacceptthelicenseterms.Then,clickNext.
7.Selectthetypeofinstallationasyouneed.ThefollowingstepsarebasedonthescenariothatCustom:
