Overview

The Lumex LS200 Alternating Pressure / Low Air Loss Mattress System is a specialized mattress replacement unit designed for pressure management in the treatment and prevention of pressure ulcers. It utilizes low air loss technology and a specialized mattress design to provide comfort and therapeutic benefits.

Function Description:

The system offers "cell on cell therapy," where the mattress cells are split into two. The bottom cells remain inflated even if the upper cells completely deflate, providing extra protection and "zero" pressure comfort, particularly in the event of a power failure. The 2:1 alternating function provides active pressure relief, especially beneficial in acute and long-term care settings. This means that 1/2 of the body is always supported at any one time, as cells inflate and deflate in a 2:1 cycle. Users can adjust the firmness or softness of the surface using a comfort level dial for optimal comfort. The system includes an audio alarm for low pressure failures, which can be temporarily muted for 20 minutes by pressing the ALARM RESET button on the pump's front panel.

Usage Features:

  • Therapy Modes: The system offers two primary therapy modes:
    • ALTERNATE Function: Pre-set to a 12-minute cycle (not adjustable), this mode provides alternating pressure relief. The cycle involves deflating "A" cells for four minutes, followed by two minutes of STATIC, then deflating "B" cells for four minutes, and another two minutes of STATIC. The first three cells at the mattress head end always remain in STATIC mode.
    • STATIC Function: Provides True Low Air Loss therapy through cell micro vents. In this mode, the pressure adjustment knob can be used to achieve maximum patient comfort. A hand check should confirm at least 1 1/2 inches (4 cm) of clearance between the patient's buttocks and the bottom of the mattress.
  • Pressure Adjustment: A pressure adjustment knob allows caregivers to set the mattress pressure comfort level based on the patient's weight and comfort needs.
  • Patient Transfer: The mattress can be inflated while a patient is lying on it, facilitating easier transfers.
  • CPR Deflation: Equipped with a quick CPR deflation valve at the head end of the mattress for emergency situations.
  • Low Pressure Alarm: An audible alarm signals low pressure issues, enhancing patient safety. The alarm can be muted for 20 minutes using the ALARM RESET button.
  • Pump Placement: A foot board mounting hanger provides convenient placement of the pump on the bed.
  • Individual Air Cushion Design: Ensures maximum pressure distribution.
  • Vented Air Cushion: Provides true low air loss therapy.
  • Cell on Cell Design: Offers "zero" pressure comfort during power loss.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning the Mattress: Surface wipe weekly with neutral detergent and lukewarm water, then rinse and dry thoroughly. Mattress cells can be wiped with a sodium hypochlorite solution (1000 ppm) or other non-phenolic germicidal solutions.
  • Cleaning the Cover: If heavily soiled, the cover can be removed, washed, and thermally disinfected in a washing machine. Phenol-based cleaning solutions should not be used.
    • Industrial Cleaning: Includes break washes (cold, 10 min), main washes (60°C, 6 min; 72°C, 10 min), extraction (2 min), 3 cold rinses, and extraction (5 min).
    • Domestic Cleaning: Includes pre-wash (cold), main wash (72°C, 10 min), extraction (2 min), cold rinses, and extraction (5 min).
    • Tumble drying or tunnel drying is not recommended.
  • Cleaning the Pump: Clean weekly with a clean, damp soft cloth and mild detergent. The ABS plastic casing can be wiped down with a sodium hypochlorite solution (1000 ppm) or an EPA-approved hospital-grade disinfectant (avoid phenol-based solutions). Do not flood or immerse the pump in liquid. If spills occur, clean while wearing rubber gloves and with the unit unplugged.
  • Air Filter Replacement: The pump includes an air filter that should be replaced periodically. The air filter cover can be removed to access and replace the used filter.
  • Inspection / System Check-Out: Before placing a new patient, check the mattress surface for tears or cracks, ensure it's free of stains, verify air inlet hoses and connectors are clean and undamaged, confirm the pump and power cord are clean and undamaged, ensure pump hanger brackets are secure, and check that the ON/OFF Power switch and comfort control knob operate correctly. Attach the pump to hoses and power up to check for air leaks.
  • Service and Repair: Service and repair must be performed by qualified personnel only. Unauthorized modifications or use of non-Lumex replacement parts will void the warranty and may create hazardous conditions. The pump contains no serviceable components and should not be opened. For service, contact GF Tech Support.
