3.10. Freezing a sample for Frozen Section
Use PrestoCHILL unit to prepare blocks for frozen section.
1) Prepare the mould by cleaning with paper soaked in alcohol and placing the appropriate chuck on it
(this procedure will prevent ice inside the mould).
Cleaning of the mould is very important to avoid the block from sticking in the mould.
2) Apply a thin layer of embedding medium (MCC) to the tip of the dispensing slide. This thin layer of
MCC creates a clean plane of separation between the tissue and the mould floor and will prevent the
sticking of any tissue residue.
3) Place tissue FACE DOWN on the dispensing slide. The transparency of the dispensing slide permits
orientation of the tissue into the desired position.
