Power Up Self-Test
6.1 Error Codes
To start the radio’s self-test routine, turn the radio on using the ON/OFF volume control button. The
self-test routine checks the RAM, ROM checksum, EEPROM hardware and EEPROM checksum. If
these checks are successfully completed, the radio will generate the Self-Test Pass Tone. If the radio
fails the self-test, it will emit a low-pitch tone.
Error Code Explanation Corrective Action
“RAM TST ERROR” RAM Test Failure Retest the radio by turning it off and turning it on again. If
the message reoccurs, replace the main board or send the
radio to nearest Motorola Depot.
“ROM CS ERROR” ROM Checksum is
wrong.
Reprogram FLASH Memory, then retest. If the message
recurs, replace the main board or send the radio to the
nearest Motorola Depot.
“EEPRM HW ERROR” Codeplug structure
mismatch, non
existence of codeplug.
Reprogram the codeplug with the correct version and retest
the radio. If the message recurs, replace the main board or
send the radio to the nearest Motorola Depot.
“EEPRM CS ERROR” Codeplug checksum is
wrong.
Reprogram the codeplug.
No Display Display module is not
connected properly.
Display module is
damaged.
Check the connection between the main board and the
display module.
Replace with a new display module.
