3.8.4 MIC CONNECTOR
A 4·pin connector is provided with mi cro phone bia s and
PTT capabilit y. De pre ssing the PTT button on the micro-
phone is the same as changing the FUNCTION switch .

The mic input con tains a deviation limit er to limit voi ce
modulation peak s as in a mobile radio.
3.8.5 EXT LEVEL
Co ntr ol of th e mic rophone and o th er external signal
generators modulation level is provid e d. When in the full
co unt er clockwise position, the so ur ce is disabled. Mod -
ulation l eve ls are viewed by se l ec ting the " DEV /% AM"
display on the le ft LCD and can al so be viewed on the
modulation sco
pe.
3.8.6 CODE-SYNTHESIZER LEVEL
The pot entiom eter co ntrols the internal code synthesizer
modulation level. Wh en in the full counterclockwise
po sition, a minimum m od ulation l eve l is reached. ON /
OFF contro l is pr ov ided by the mo dulation switch. Mod -
ulation levels are viewed by selecting the '' DEV /% AM ''
display on the left L CD and can be viewed on the m od -
ulation scope . Al so the code synthesizer operates ind e-
pendently of the function switch se tting.
3.8.7 MODULATION SWITCH
A 3 position toggle switch controls the code synthesizer
modulation so ur ce.

Cont. - Allows cont inuous modulati on (recycle) sig-
nal outputs. S eq uential ton e patterns will be repe ated
as long as this switch is
enabled.
2. OFF-Turns off th e modulation signal. If in the DP L
or lDPL mod e, re turning th e switch to the OFF from
cont inuou s or burst produce s a 134.4 Hz stop tone
burst for 120 ms.
3. Burst-F or PL , tone A and ton e B mode s the output
is present for as long as the switch is held in the bur st
position.
For A/B Var , A/B T&V , and tone remote ,
putting the switch in the Bur st position causes one
cycle to be output. For tone remot e, the last A tone is
out put for as long as the switch is held in the bur st
position
to simul ate low guard t one.
In the DPL or IDPL m odulation mode the bur st
position
ca uses conti nuous cycling of the code as long
as
the switch is depressed. When the switch is released
the code completes th e cycle it was in and a 120 ms
burst
of stop tone (134.4 Hz) is ge ne rated.
3.8.8 CODE SYNTHESIZER MODE SELECTION
The co de sy nth esizer pro vides capability to select any of
the formats li st ed below. Each of 10 po si tions has a
correspondin g LED to indicate which mode is se lected.
Onl y when the modulati on switch is toggled away from
the off p os iti on will the o utput s be ge n erated and dis-
pla yed in the right LCD. The modula ti on switch mu st be
active for setting deviation with the code sy nth esizer
level control. P os itionin g of the se l ec ted m ode is
perform ed by th e l b. J ve rti ca l display c ur sor. As with
all
cursor co ntr ols in th e unit , an audible fee db ack t one
will verify acce ptance of a switch ac tivation.
