Governor cup and the governor gear
To remove or replace the governor gear and cup:
1. Remove the engine from the unit.
2. Remove the governor arm by following the previously
described steps.
3. Remove the flywheel by following the steps
described in Chapter 7: Ignition Systems.
4. Remove the sump and crankshaft by following the
steps described in Chapter 10: Cam, Crankshaft and
Piston.
5. Drive out the governor gear shaft using a 5/32” pin
punch. See Figure 4.41.
NOTE: If the engine is equipped with an alternator,
remove the stator for easier access to the shaft.
See Figure 4.42.
6. Slide the shaft out of the gear and cup. See Figure
4.43.
