6.13.5 Charge-air coolant – Draining
Preconditions
Engine is stopped and starting disabled.
Special tools, Material, Spare parts

Sealing ring

WARNING
Coolant is hot and under pressure.
Risk of injury and scalding!
Let the engine cool down.
Wear protective clothing, gloves, and goggles / safety mask.
Charge-air coolant – Draining
1. Provide an appropriate container to drain
the coolant into.
2. Turn breather valve on coolant expansion
tank counterclockwise to the first stop and
allow pressure to escape.
3. Continue to turn breather valve counter‐
clockwise and remove.
4. Draw off precipitated corrosion inhibitor oil
from the expansion tank through filler neck.
5. Open drain plugs and drain coolant at the
following points:
At the charge-air coolant pump;
At the intercooler, engine driving end and
free end sides.
6. Screw in drain plugs with new sealing rings.
7. Place breather valve on filler neck and
close.
