Frost protection or de-icing
A
ll ventilation units with a heat exchanger with high heat recovery rate will be subject to ice formation
in the heat exchanger in periods of heavy frost.
The unit has an automatic integral de-icing function, which thaws out the heat exchanger if there is ice
in it. While the thawing is under way, no heat recovery will take place.
It is possible to prevent ice formation in the heat exchanger with an pre-heating element for frost
protection. The frost protection can be a standard duct heating element, a BAH solution or an EHD
solution. Units purchased as a Polar version have an integral electrical frost protection heating
element.

Polar
This indicates whether it is wished to protect the unit
against icing, and if so, how.
None: No frost protection is required.
Polar: Frost protection is provided using the integral
pre-heating element
EHD: Frost protection is provided using an EHD
solution.
BAH: Frost protection is provided using a BAH solution.

None
This indicates whether it is wished to protect the unit
against icing, and if so, how.
None: No frost protection is required.
External: An external pre-heating element has been
installed.
EHD: Frost protection is provided using an EHD
solution.
BAH: Frost protection is provided using a BAH solution.
If Polar is selected for frost protection, only Compact P Polar applies:

Frost protection heat exchanger Setting: Polar
Start frost protection below (ºC) Settings:
Standard setting:
Description:
1.0 5.0°C
1.0°C
Heat exchanger monitoring starts at an outdoor
temperature below this setting.
Setpoint for pre-heater T4 (°C) Settings:
Standard setting:
Description:
1.0 4.0°C
2.0°C
If the temperature measured after the heat exchanger
(T4) falls below the setting, there is an increased risk of
ice formation in the exchanger.
The pre-heating element for frost protection starts by
pulsing heat and ensures that T4 does not fall below
the set temperature.
