SPECIFIC SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
Alwaysturnthelatheoffatthemainssupplyandremovethe
plug before carrying out any maintenance, tool changing, gear
changing,chuckreplacementorlubrication.
Do not wear loose clothing, jewellery or anything that could get
caughtinthemovingpartsofthemachine.
Alwayschecktheoperationofallguardsandkeeptheminplace
atalltimes.
Do not use the machine if any of the guards fail to operate
correctly.
Alwayswearsafetyglassesorgoggleswhenoperatingmetal
cuttingmachinery.
Ensure that the chuck key has been removed from the chuck
beforestartingthelathe.
Check that the cutting tool is secured at the right height in the
toolpostandthatthetoolpostislockedintoposition.
Donotusewaterasalubricantorcoolingmedium.Onlyusethe
minimumamountofoilorsolubleoil.
Do not allow any lubricant or coolant to come into contact with
themotororwiring.
Do not attempt to defeat any of the safety micro switches, they
areprovidedforyoursafety.
Donotstoretoolsetc.onthetopofthelatheoronthelathe
bedslides.
Alwayscheckthattheworkpieceissecurelyheldinthechuck.
Alwayscheckthepositionofthecuttingtoolbeforestartingthe
cut.
Alwaysusethecorrectcuttingtool,spindlespeedandfeedfor
thematerialtobemachined.
Ensure that the lead screw drive is in the disengaged position
beforestartingthemachine.
Ensure that only the minimum amount of material is protruding
fromthechucktoallowsafecompletionofthecut.
Whenmachininglongerworkpiecesalwaysusethetailstock
withalivecentrefitted.
Do not attempt to change any of the gears with the lathe
running.

turning lathe user in mind and only covers the basic safe
operationoftheengineerslathe.Fortheuserwhohaslittleor
no experience with using this type of machine we recommend
the purchase of suitable publication covering basic metal turning
techniques.
