Creating Synth Brass
Making the String Pad More Lush
Now lets make the string pad more lush by using the LFOs to modulate
the oscillator waveshapes and recreate the classic “pulse-width mod”
strings found on many vintage synths.
To use waveshape mod to make the string pad more lush:
1. On Oscillator 1, press the square waveshape button.
2. On Oscillator 2, do the same.
3. In the Mixer section, press and then hold the sub button, and use the
value knob to set the level to 70.
4. On lfo 1: global hold the dest button and press osc 1 pw (Oscillator 1
pulse width) button.
5. Set the amount parameter to +20.
6. On lfo 1: global, set frequency to 10 o’clock.
7. Next, On lfo 2: per voice press the dest assign button and using the
controls in the display, set the destination to osc 2 pw (Oscillator 2
pulsewidth).
8. Set the amount parameter to -40.
9. On lfo 1: global, set frequency to 9 o’clock.
10. Play some chords and listen to the sound.
You are now modulating the waveshape of each oscillator differently.
This gives the sound more animation. Try experimenting with different
LFO frequency, shape, and amount settings.
Adding Effects to the String Pad
You can enhance the string pad adding an effect such as chorus, anging,
or phasing for a retro feel.
To add effects to the string pad:
1. In the effect section, press the on button.
2. Turn the type knob and choose phaser.
3. Set time to 8 o’clock.
4. Set depth/mix to 12 o’clock.
