Choose carefully which hills you
attempt to climb. Avoid hills with
slippery surfaces or ones where you
will not be able to see far enough
ahead of you.
! WARNING
POTENTIAL HAZARD
Operating on excessively steep hills.
WHAT CAN HAPPEN
The vehicle can overturn more
easily on extremely steep hills than
on level surfaces or small hills.
HOW TO AVOID THE HAZARD
Never operate your vehicle on hills
too steep for it or your abilities.
Never operate vehicles on hills
steeper than 15°.
Do not drive across the face of a
hill. Go straight up the hill.
Practice on smaller hills before
attempting large hills.
If you start to lose traction or momentum
when climbing, use the brakes to come
to a stop. Do not attempt to turn the
vehicle around. With your foot on the
brake, look behind you and plan your
descent. Shift the drive select lever in
reverse so you can use the engine
brake if necessary to slow your descent.
Release the brake and begin to coast
down the hill. Use engine braking as
much as possible, gently applying the
brakes when necessary.
