• Programme shift is cancelled and the
camera returns to normal programme AE
mode if more than 10 seconds pass after
programme shift is activated. However,
the programme shift setting is memorised.
• Depending on the brightness of the
subject, programme shift may not be
activated.
Taking pictures using
the automatic function
(Intelligent Auto Mode)
In this mode, the camera automatically
determines the most appropriate settings
according to subject and the surrounding
conditions, so we recommend this mode be
used by beginners, or those who want to
leave the settings to the camera and take
pictures easily.
The following functions work automatically
in the intelligent auto mode [ ].
w Stabilizer function (P81)
Jitter is detected and stabilized.
w Intelligent ISO sensitivity (P74)
The camera will automatically set the
appropriate ISO sensitivity and the shutter
speed to the movement of the subject and
the surrounding brightness.
w Face recognition (P79)
The camera can automatically detect a
person’s face and will adjust the focus and
exposure to fit that face no matter what
portion of the picture it is in.
w Automatic scene distinction
The camera will automatically distinguish
the scene as shown in the chart below and
determine the most appropriate settings to
match the subject and the recording
conditions.

w Continuous AF (P82)
In order for the camera to adjust the focus
as normal without pressing the shutter
button halfway, focus adjustment is quicker
when the shutter is pressed.
w Changing the settings
Press [MENU/SET] to display the [REC]
mode menu or the [SETUP] menu, and
then select the item to set. (P18)

• The available settings for the following
items will differ when used with other
[REC] modes.
– [PICT.SIZE]
– [STABILIZER]
– [COL.EFFECT]
• The settings for [CLOCK SET],
[WORLD TIME], [TRAVEL DATE],
[BEEP], and [LANGUAGE] in the
intelligent auto mode [ ] will also be
reflected in other [REC] modes.
