FLASH 2
This command defines how the built-in flash will operate when taking still
pictures.
Note: Red eye will be reduced at the time the picture is taken. Red-eye
reduction will be reflected in both RAW and JPEG formats. This command
is separate from MENU/SET>REC>(pg 2) RED-EYE REMOVAL>[ON], which
is a post-processing red-eye removal operation.
Auto: The flash is automatically used when needed.
Auto with red-eye reduction: The flash is automatically used when
needed, in a manner that will reduce the effects of red eye.
Forced flash on: The flash is fired for each picture, regardless of the
ambient light intensity.
Forced flash on with red-eye reduction: The flash fires with every shot, and
uses the red-eye reduction flash process.
Slow synch: The shutter speed is automatically slowed when taking a
flash picture with a dark background. This allows the background to be
exposed more, which brightens it.
Slow synch with red-eye reduction: The shutter speed is automatically
slowed when taking a flash picture with a dark background while using
the red-eye reduction process. This allows the background to be exposed,
which brightens it.
Forced flash off: The flash mechanism is disabled for all recording con-
ditions. This is set by the camera when the flash head is closed; it is not an
actual option within the menu.
RED-EYE REMOVAL 2
The camera digitally detects that red eye has occurred and corrects it. This
is done in post-processing and therefore works only with JPEG files.
OFF Disables the red-eye removal post-processing functionality.
ON Enables the red-eye removal post-processing functionality.
FLASH SYNCHRO 2
This command allows you to set the timing of the flash with the shutter.
It can aid when taking pictures of moving objects. The usefulness of the
flash may deteriorate when a fast shutter speed is used.
1ST The flash is timed to go off as the shutter is being opened.
2nd
The flash is timed to go off just before the shutter closes. Not compatible
with red-eye reduction FLASH settings.
FLASH ADJUST. 3
This command allows you to adjust the flash level. This adjustment is
important when the subject is very small or there is a high or low level of
reflectivity.
Range: −2 EV to
+2 EV, in one-third
increments
Select the value using the left and right directional arrow buttons or rear
dial. The original flash level is 0. The negative side decreases flash output;
the positive side increases the flash output.
I.RESOLUTION 3
The command controls the sharpening of the images and videos and
reduces noise. It applies only to JPEG files; RAW files are not affected.
Note: This can be adjusted in the Quick Menu when the camera is in
Creative Motion Picture Mode.
OFF
Disables the Intelligent Resolution function. The resulting image will be
what the sensor sees.
LOW This option applies the lowest level of sharpening to pictures and videos.
STANDARD
This option applies an intermediate level of sharpening to pictures and
videos.
HIGH This option applies the highest level of sharpening to pictures and videos.
EXTENDED
This option applies the highest level of sharpening to pictures while main-
taining a natural look. It will slow any burst speed or continuous record-
ing. This option is not available during video recording.
I.DYNAMIC 3
This command is common to both the REC and MOTION PICTURE menus.
The contrast and exposure are adjusted automatically when there is a
significant difference in brightness between the background and the sub-
ject. The icon turns yellow when this command is activated.
Note: Image detection diminishes when there is a significant difference
between the background and subject brightness. Adjusting the contrast
and exposure helps you visualize details in the shadows and highlights.
OFF
Disables the Intelligent Dynamic function. The resulting image will be
what the sensor sees.
LOW This option brightens the dark areas by the lowest amount.
STANDARD This option brightens the dark areas by an intermediate amount.
HIGH This option brightens the dark areas by the highest amount.
