CAUTION:
The cooling water inlet on the lower unit should be not above the surface of the water when
setting up for and cruising in shallow water. Otherwise severe damage from overheating can
result. For tilting procedure, see section 2.11.
2.12.2 Cruising in salt water
After operating in salt water, wash out the cooling water passages with fresh water to prevent them
from becoming clogged with salt deposits.
3. Maintenance
While using the outboard motor, the periodic maintenance is necessary for you to ensure its
performance.
WARNING
Be sure to turn off the engine when you perform maintenance unless otherwise specified.
If you or the owner is not familiar with machine servicing, this work should be done by your
dealer or other qualified mechanic.
CAUTION:
If replacement parts are necessary, use only original parts or parts of the same type and of
equivalent strength and materials.
