Tracking conductors in the soil (single-pole application)
Note: For the test the conductor must be voltage-free.
Ensure that the connection to the protective contact has at least two meters distance from the test
line in the ground, otherwise there can be no exact assignment of the conductor.
Connect the red cable directly to the wire to be tested or to the associated junction box and the
black cable with protective ground.
Move the receiver now over the soil until you receive a signal. The signal is stronger, the closer you
get to the line and weaker the further away you are.
For long lines in the ground, the received signal decreases steadily with the line length.
10. Recommendations for a better application
Increase signal strength in live-circuits (two-pole application)
Note: The search in live systems must only be performed in compliance with all safety regulations.
The magnetic field between the phase and neutral conductors of a power line nearly erase
themselves, so that the maximum search depth is about 0.5 m. To find live-wires in two-pole
application, you may use a different line as the return line, which you should lay at a distance of
min. 2 meters parallel to the target line. In this way, the magnetic field can spread further and make
a better locatable signal for the receiver. For this simulated example, you can use an extension
cord as simulated return-line.
