Conditions Which Generate This Code:
The Electronic Control Module (ECM) detects the
following conditions:
•
The ECM detected an intermittent loss of signal
or a complete loss of signal from the primary
speed/ti
ming sensor for 2 seconds.
•
The engine has been running for more than 3
seconds
.
System Response:
If equipped, the diagnostic light will come on and the
diagnostic code will be logged.
The ECM will use the signal from the secondary
speed/timing sensor.
Possible Performance Effect:
The en
gine will be derated. If the signal from the
secondary speed/timing sensor is also lost, the
engine will shut down.
Troubleshooting:
This
diagnostic code will detect a loss of signal from
the primary speed/timing sensor.
Perf
orm the following diagnostic procedure: “Engine
Speed/Timing Sensor Circuit - Test”
Res
ults:
•
OK – STOP.

Conditions Which Gen erate This Code:
The Electronic Control Module (ECM) detects
incorrect engine software.
System Response:
If equipped
, the diagnostic light will come on.
This diagnostic code is not logged.
Factory passwords are required to clear this
diagnostic code.
Possible Pe rformance Effect:
The engin
ewillnotstart.
Troubleshooting:
The flash file in the ECM is from the wrong engine
family.
Use the electronic service tool to install the correct
flash file into the ECM. Refer to the Troubleshooting,
“Flash P
rogramming”.

Conditions Which Gen erate This Code:
The E
lectronic Control Module (ECM) detects the
following conditions:
•
The
outputs from the primary speed/timing sensor
and the secondary speed/timing sensor differ by
more than 8 degrees on the crankshaft.
