The
free-motion
quilt
foot
in
combination
with
the
straight-stitch
is
ideally
suited
for
free
motion
quilting.
When
free
motion
quilting,
the
three
pieces
of
material
are
fed
by
hand,The
quicker
you
sew,
the
easy
it
is
to
feed
the
material,
which
results
in
a
nice
even
seam.Try
out
this
technique
using
a
piece
of
sample
material.
Free
motion
quilting
is
possible
in
straight
or
in
curved
lines.
If
you
wish
to
perform
free
motion
straight
line
quilting
with
a
clearance
of
1/4
inch
(6.35
mm),
then
orientate
the
middle
needle
position
according
to
the
four
red
marks.These
are
set
with
a
spacing
of
1/2
inch
(12.7
mm)
on
the
free-
motion
quilt
foot.
Loosen
the
knurled
screw
on
the
sewing
foot
holder
(27).
Press
the
free-motion
quilt
foot
gently
together
with
thumb
and
index
finger.
Guide
the
pin
on
the
free-motion
quilt
foot
into
the
hole
of
the
sewing
foot
holder
as
far
as
it
will
go.
In
this
case
the
feed
fork
of
the
free-
motion
quilt
foot
must
be
at
the
rear
of
the
needle
holder
(25).
Tighten
the
knurled
screw.
Adjust
the
free-motion
quilt
foot
into
the
darning
position
(see
page
76)
and
lower
the
feed
dog
(see
page
27).

Note:
Using
the
free-motion
quilt
foot,
free
motion
embroidery
work
e.g.
monograms
can
also
be
completed.
As
leather
is
very
stretchable,
you
should
use
a
cut-away
stabilizer
on
the
underside.
With
thick
leather,
we
recommend
a
needle
with
a
long
eye
(system
1
30
N)
and
with
soft
leather
an
embroidery
needle.
Engage
the
Teflon
foot.
Embroider
the
leather
as
required.
Remove
the
stabilizer.
Remember
that
needle
holes
remain
visible
on
leather.
