How to fix Pit Boss PB0820D3 Grill fire in fire pot that will not light?
    • C
      Carrie BrandtAug 22, 2025
If the fire pot in your Pit Boss Grill won't light, it could be due to several reasons. If the auger is not primed, especially after the first use or after emptying the hopper, the igniter might time out before pellets reach the fire pot; in this case, follow the Hopper Priming Procedure. A jammed auger motor could also be the problem; remove cooking components, turn the unit on to SMOKE, and check if the auger is feeding pellets into the fire pot. If not, assistance is needed. Lastly, the igniter itself may have failed; remove cooking components, turn the unit on to SMOKE, and check for heat above the fire pot and ensure the igniter protrudes about 13mm (0.5 inches) into the fire pot. If it's not working, use the Manual Start-up Procedure temporarily.

What does flashing dots on Pit Boss PB0820D3 Grill LCD screen mean?
    • R
      Rose EscobarSep 3, 2025
Flashing dots on the LCD screen of your Pit Boss Grill indicate that the unit has power and is in Start-Up mode with the igniter on. This is not an error. The igniter will turn off after five minutes, and once the flashing dots disappear, the grill will begin adjusting to the selected temperature.

What does flashing temperature on Pit Boss PB0820D3 Grill LCD screen mean?
    • J
      johnmcdonaldSep 2, 2025
A flashing temperature on the LCD screen of your Pit Boss Grill indicates that the grill temperature is below 65°C / 150°F. This is not an error, but it does suggest a risk that the fire could go out. Check the hopper for sufficient fuel or for any obstruction in the feed system. Remove the pellets and follow the care and maintenance instructions. Also, check the grill probe and clean it if it is dirty. Inspect the fire pot for ash build-up or obstructions, and ensure the fan is working properly with no blockage of air intake. Finally, verify that the auger motor is rotating and there is no blockage in the auger tube.

What to do if Pit Boss PB0820D3 Grill produces excess or discolored smoke?
    • R
      Rachael MartinezSep 1, 2025
If your Pit Boss Grill is producing excessive or discolored smoke, it could be due to several reasons. Grease build-up may be the cause, so follow the care and maintenance instructions. The quality of the wood pellets could also be a factor; remove any moist wood pellets from the hopper, clean it out, and replace them with dry wood pellets. A blocked fire pot could also be the culprit; clear the fire pot of any moist wood pellets and follow the Hopper Priming Procedure. Finally, insufficient air intake for the fan may be the issue; check the fan to ensure it is working properly and that the air intake is not blocked, and follow the care and maintenance instructions if it's dirty.

What to do if Pit Boss Grill shows "ErH" error code?
    • C
      christinapierceAug 30, 2025
If your Pit Boss grill displays the "ErH" error code, it means the unit has overheated, possibly due to a grease fire or excess fuel. Turn the unit off and allow it to cool. Then, follow the maintenance instructions. After maintenance, remove the pellets and confirm the positioning of all component parts. Once cooled, turn the unit back on and select the desired temperature. If the error code persists, further assistance is needed.

Why Pit Boss PB0820D3 has no power lights on the control board?
    • N
      nleonAug 29, 2025
If there are no power lights on the control board of your Pit Boss Grill, several factors could be the cause. First, ensure the Temperature Control Dial is not off; press the Power Button to confirm it glows blue, indicating a power connection, and then set the Temperature Control Dial to your desired temperature. Another possible cause is that the grill is not properly connected to a power source; ensure it's plugged into a working outlet and reset the breaker. Also, check that the GFCI is a minimum 10 Amp service. A blown fuse on the control board could also be the culprit; inspect the fuse for a broken or blackened wire and replace if necessary. Finally, the GFCI outlet may have been tripped, or the control board itself may be faulty, requiring replacement.

Why is my Pit Boss PB0820D3 Grill producing too much smoke?
    • P
      patrickwareAug 27, 2025
If your Pit Boss Grill is producing excessive or discolored smoke, several factors could be the cause. Start by checking for grease build-up and cleaning the grill. Also, inspect the quality of the hardwood pellets; remove any moist pellets and replace them with dry ones. A blocked burn pot can also cause this issue, so clear it of any obstructions. Finally, ensure the fan has sufficient air intake and is free from blockages. Follow the maintenance instructions to clean the fan if necessary.

    • P
      Paula CampbellAug 27, 2025
To prevent frequent flare-ups in your Pit Boss Grill: 1. Try cooking at a lower temperature, keeping it under 176°C / 350°F when cooking highly greasy food. 2. Address grease build-up on cooking components by following the care and maintenance instructions.

Why Pit Boss PB0820D3 will not achieve or maintain stable temperature?
    • O
      olivia78Aug 26, 2025
If your Pit Boss Grill isn't maintaining a stable temperature, several factors could be responsible. Insufficient airflow through the fire pot may be the cause; inspect the fire pot for ash build-up or obstructions, ensure the fan is working correctly and the air intake isn't blocked, and confirm the auger motor is functioning without blockages. A lack of fuel, poor fuel quality, or an obstruction in the feed system could also be the issue; check the fuel level in the hopper, and if the pellets are of poor quality or too long, remove them. The grill probe might also be dirty or damaged. If dirty, follow the cleaning instructions. Once these steps are complete, start the grill, set the temperature to SMOKE, wait for 10 minutes, and check that the flame is bright and vibrant.
