4. Remove the shim, thrust button, and thrust button
shim from the housing cover.
5. Inspect the ring gear for abnormal wear, broken, or
chipped teeth. Spin the bearings to check for
smoothness. Replace the bearings if needed.
IMPORTANT: Replace bearings upon removal,
as removal can cause permanent internal
damage.
6. Remove the output shaft cover from the gearcase
housing. Some tapping of the cover with a soft-faced
hammer may be required to separate it from the
housing.
7. Inspect the gears for abnormal wear, broken, or
chipped teeth. Spin the bearings and check for
smoothness. Replace bearings if needed.
