CAUTION: Do not overtighten the screws or you may inadvertently
cause stress cracks in the plastic.
c. Insert the four screws (E) and alternately tighten using the hex key (B).
d. Perform steps a. through c. on the opposite side using the four 3/4-inch
screws removed from the base tube in step 21.
24. Insert the left and right handrails into the upper clamp. Diagram 15.
Attach one handrail at a time. Using one hand, apply pressure on the portion
of the handrail being inserted into the clamp while, with the other hand, lift
and lower the base of the handrail. This rotating motion helps move the
handrail into the upper clamp. Repeat this step for the opposite handrail.
25. Check the gap in the upper clamp. Diagram 15, inset. Look underneath the
handrail clamp to see that a minimum 1/4-inch gap exists between the two
ends of the handrails. The gap should be not greater than 1/2-inch. Adjust the
handrails accordingly.
