FLASH12P INSTRUCTIONS (FIG. 4 / 5 / 6)
15. INPUT (SPEAKON)
External ampli er power input: this is the connector where you plug in the power cable coming from your power
ampli er or powered mixer. The powered signal is ltered by an internal passive crossover for the LF woofer and HF
compression driver. The INPUT speakon has this pin connec on:
PIN1+: posi ve power signal (usually red wire)
PIN1-: nega ve power signal (usually black wire)
16. LINK (SPEAKON)
Output of the power signal to be sent to another loudspeaker. INPUT
and LINK connectors are in parallel connec on.
17. PRODUCT LABEL
In this label are wri en the most important informa on about the loudspeaker: model, power handling, impedance
serial number.
PROTECTION
A protec on circuit is built in to protect the high-frequency compression driver from excessive power. When the power
to the HF driver approaches the maximum, the power delivered to the driver is momentarily interrupted.
NOTE: The protec on circuit is designed to protect the HF driver under reasonable and sensible condi ons. Should you
choose to ignore the warning signs (i.e., frequent clip LED indica ons, excessive distor on), you can s ll damage the
speakers by overdriving them past their recommended ampli er power-handling ra ngs, or past the point of ampli er
clipping. Such damage is beyond the scope of the warranty.
CHOOSE THE AMPLIFIER POWER
We give you two power-handling numbers: con nuous and peak. So these data suggest you can use any ampli er with
a power capability equal or less the power-handling, but this rule is valid only if the ampli er never clip any me.
Preven ng loudspeaker damage caused by clipping, that is likely the number one cause of damage, and assuming you
want to use the full capability of the loudspeaker, we recommend the use of an ampli er with a built-in limiter to prevent
clipping, in this case the rated power capability must be the same con nuous power ra ng of the loudspeaker into the
same speci ed impedance (typically 4 or 8 ohms):
To obtain the best result using FLASH12P / 8 ohm we suggest the use of PROEL HPX-900 ampli er for a standard
stereo con gura on.
IMPORTANT: Clipping occurs when the signal at the output of any device in the system (not just the ampli er) reaches its
maximum level. Proper opera on of a sound system includes being aware of the types of audio signals being reproduced,
controlling the output levels accordingly, and opera ng all the devices in the system so that no clipping occurs within
the signal chain.
