7.3 ADJUSTING THE CHAIN TENSION
1. To adjust the chain the top differential bolts must be loosened on both sides.
2. Next loosen the large 24mm nuts on both sides.
3. to increase or reduce the
slack in the chain.
4. When tightening the bolts ensure the differential is pushed all the way forward
24mm nuts on both sides.
5. Tighten the top mounting bolts
6. Re-check the chain tension, there should be an inch of total deflection in the
loosest point on the chain, check this by rotating the wheels. Check the tight
7. Repeat this process until the desired tension has been reached.
If you need to fit a new chain, ensure the length of the chain is set so that the driveshafts are
perpendicular to the center line of the car.
7.4 CHANGING THE REAR SPROCKET
1. The first step is to flatten the sprocket tab washers in order to gain access to the heads of the sprocket
bolts
2. Remove the bolts going through the rear sprocket using a 17mm socket
3. When all of the bolts are removed, the sprocket will split in to two which means it can be removed
from the rear differential. The differential may need to be loosened in order to get the chain off of the
sprocket
4. Clean up the threads on the bolts which have been removed; providing all of the bolts were removed
with ease these will be okay to refit with the new sprocket
5. It is recommended to ensure the sprocket is bolted on to the differential by joining the two pieces of
sprocket together first
6. When the sprocket is bolted back on to the differential, it is good practice to ensure the rear sprocket
is aligned with the front sprocket. To do this, simply use a straight edge from the side of the rear
sprocket to check it lines up with the outside of the front sprocket
7. If the sprockets are out of alignment, this will need to be adjusted using the 4 bolts which are holding
the differential in place
8. Once the differential is aligned, it is likely you will have to split the chain in order to re fit the chain to
the sprocket. This is carried out by using a chain splitter.
9. If using a new chain, it is important to check the chain length by counting the links in the chain.
10. Should the chain be too long, use a chain de-linker to remove links from the chain in order to ensure
the differential is in alignment
