Docksidewizardprocedure.Oncethewizardis
complete,calculateandadjustthehard-overtime.
Checkingtherudderdrive
AspartoftheDocksidewizard,thesystemwillcheck
thedriveconnection.Onceithascompletedthe
checksuccessfully,amessagewillappearaskingif
itissafeforthesystemtotakethehelm.
Duringthisproceduretheautopilotwillmovethe
rudder.Ensureitissafetoproceedbeforeselecting
OK.
WhenintheDocksidewizard,withtheMotorCheck
pagedisplayed:
1.Centerandletgooftherudder.
2.Disengageanyrudderdriveclutch.
3.SelectCONTINUE.
4.CheckitissafetoproceedbeforeselectingOK.
Forvesselswitharudderreferencetransducer,
theautopilotwillnowautomaticallymovethe
ruddertoportandthenstarboard.
5.Forvesselswithoutarudderreference
transducer,youwillbeaskedtoconrmthe
rudderturnedtoportbyselectingYESorNO.
6.SelectOKifitissafetoengagetherudderinthe
oppositedirection.
7.Youwillbeaskedtoconrmtherudderturnedto
starboardbyselectingYESorNO.
8.Docksidewizardisnowcomplete,select
CONTINUE.
Note:Ifyouconrmeda“NO”responseforthe
ruddermovementtobothportandstarboard,the
wizardwillexit.Itispossiblethatthesteering
systemdidnotmovetherudderinanydirection,
anditwillbenecessarytocheckthesteering
systembeforecompletingtheDocksidewizard
procedureagain.
Note:Iftheruddermovesintheoppositedirection
thanexpectedyoumayneedtoreversethephase
oftherudderreferenceunit.Thiscanbeachieved
byaccessing:PilotSet-up>PilotSettings>
DriveSettings>ReverseRudderRef.
YoucancancelDocksidewizardatanytimeby
pressingSTANDBY.

Ifnorudderreferencehasbeenttedyou
MUSTensurethatadequateprovisionis
madetopreventthesteeringmechanism
fromimpactingtheendstops.
Adjustingthehard-overtime
Onvesselswithoutarudderreferencetransducer,it
isimportanttosetthehard-overtimelimitscorrectly,
toensureaccurateautopilotoperation.Hard-over
timeisthetimeittakesthevessel’ssteeringsystem
todrivetherudderfromfullporttofullstarboard.
Beforeattemptingthefollowingprocedure,ensure
thatyou’veobservedandunderstoodtheRudder
checkwarningprovidedinthisdocument.
Thefollowinginformationonly
appliestovesselswithouta
rudderreferencetransducer.
1.Withtheautopilotin‘Standby’mode,manually
turnthehelmfulltoport.
2.Placetheautopilotin‘Auto’mode.
3.Usingastopwatch,startthetimer,andthen
immediately:
4.Turn180degreesfromyourcurrentheading.
5.Oncetherudderhasreachedtherudderlimitthat
wasspeciedaspartoftheDocksidewizard,
stopthetimer.
6.Tocalculateyourhard-overtime,takethe
measuredtimeanddoubleit.
7.NowaccesstheHardOverTimemenutospecify
thishard-overtime.
Settingthehardovertime
Oncethehardovertimehasbeenestablisheditcan
besetfollowingthestepsbelow.
FromthePilotSet-uppage:
1.SelectPilotSettings.
2.SelectDriveSettings.
3.SelectHardOverTime.
4.Enteryourhardovertimeinseconds.
Compasslinearization
WithEvolutionautopilotsystems,whentheEVunit
isrstinstalledandpowered-up,itsinternalcompass
needstocompensateforlocalmagneticvariations
andtheearth’smagneticeld.Thisisachievedusing
anautomaticprocessknownaslinearization,which
formsanimportantpartoftheautopilotinstallation,
commissioningandset-upprocess.
Linearization
InEvolutionsystems,thelinearizationprocess
isperformedautomaticallybytheEVunitas
abackgroundtaskwhenthevessel'sspeedis
between3and15knots,nouserinterventionis
requiredhoweveratleasta270degreeturnis
required.Theprocesswilloccurduringyourrst
voyagewiththeautopilotsystem,andwilltypically
takenomorethan30minutes,butthisdoesvary
accordingtothecharacteristicsofthevessel,the
installationenvironmentoftheEVunit,andthelevels
ofmagneticinterferenceatthetimeofconducting
theprocess.Sourcesofsignicantmagnetic
interferencemayincreasethetimerequiredto
completethelinearizationprocess.Examplesof
