Usingwindvanemode
YoucanselectWindvanemodefromeitherSTANDBYorAUTO
mode:
1.Steadythevesselontotherequiredwindangle.
2.SelectWindvanemode:
i.WindvanemodecanbeselectedbypressingtheAUTOand
STANDBYbuttonstogether,or
ii.selectingWindvanemodefromthemodesmenu:Menu
>Mode>Windvane.
ThiswillenableWindvanemodeandlockthecurrentwindangle.
Thedisplayshowsthelockedheading(e.g.128°)andthewind
angle(e.g.WIND145Pindicatesawindangleof145°toport).
3.TheSmartPilotwillthenadjustthevessel’sheadingtomaintain
thelockedwindangle.
Adjustingthelockedwindangle
1.Youcanadjustthelockedwindanglebyusingthe-1,+1,-10and
+10buttons,ortheROTARYcontrollertochangecourse.For
example,tobearawayby10°whentheboatisonastarboard
tack:
i.press-10toturntheboat10°toport–thelockedwindangle
andlockedheadingwillbothchangeby10°.
ii.theautopilotwillthenadjustthelockedheadingasrequired
tomaintainthenewwindangle.
Note:Becauseturningthevesselaffectstherelationship
betweenthetrueandapparentwindangles,youshouldonlyuse
thismethodtomakeminoradjustmentstothewindangle.For
majorchanges,returntoSTANDBYmode,steerontothenew
heading,thenreselectWindVanemode.Refertothep70pilot
controllerinstallationinstructionfortheprocedureforchanging
thewindreferencebetweenTrueandApparent.
Leavingwindvanemode
Toleavewindvanemode:
1.PressAUTOtoreturntoAutomode(autopilotcontrol),or.
2.PressSTANDBYtoreturntoStandbymode(manualsteering).
Windtrim
InWindVanemodetheSmartPilotusesWindTrimtoeliminatethe
effectsofturbulenceandshorttermwindvariations.Thisprovides
smoothandpreciseperformancewithminimalpowerconsumption.
Youcanadjustthewindresponse(WindTrim)levelinSailboat
settingsmenuMainmenu>Setup>Autopilotcalibration>
SailboatsettingstocontrolhowquicklytheSmartPilotrespondsto
changesinthewinddirection.Higherwindtrimsettingswillresultin
apilotthatismoreresponsivetowindchanges.
Windshiftwarning
Iftheautopilotdetectsawindshiftofmorethan15°itwillsoundthe
windshiftwarninganddisplaytheWINDSHIFTmessage.
Respondingtothewindshiftwarning
1.T ocancelthewarning,andretaintheexistingwindangleand
newheading,pressCANCEL.
2.Alternatively,tocancelthewarningandreturntotheprevious
heading:
i.adjustthelockedwindangleusingthe-1,+1,-10and+10
buttons.
ii.pressSTANDBYtoreturntohandsteering,steerontothe
requiredheading,andpressCANCELtoreturntoWindVane
modewiththenewwindangle.
