Windtrim
InWindVanemodetheautopilotusesWindTrimtoeliminate
theeffectsofturbulenceandshorttermwindvariations.This
providessmoothandpreciseperformancewithminimalpower
consumption.Youcanadjustthewindresponse(WindTrim)
levelinSailboatsettingsmenuMainmenu>Setup>
Autopilotcalibration>Sailboatsettingstocontrolhowquickly
theautopilotrespondstochangesinthewinddirection.Higher
windtrimsettingswillresultinapilotthatismoreresponsive
towindchanges.
Windshiftwarning
Iftheautopilotdetectsawindshiftofmorethan15°itwillsound
thewindshiftwarninganddisplaytheWINDSHIFTmessage.
Respondingtothewindshiftwarning
1.Tocancelthewarning,andretaintheexistingwindangle
andheading,pressCancel.
2.Alternatively,tocancelthewarningandreturntotheprevious
heading:
i.adjustthelockedwindangleusingthe-1,+1,-10and
+10buttonsortheRotarycontroller.
ii.pressStandbytoreturntomanualsteering,steeronto
therequiredheading,andpressCanceltoreturntoWind
Vanemodewiththenewwindangle.
UsingAutoTackinwindvanemode
Theautopilothasabuiltinautomatictackfacility(AutoTack)that
turnsyourvessel"relative"tothewindangleyou'recurrentlyon,
andittacksthevesseltoputyouontheoppositerelativewind
angle.

•Alwaystrimyoursailscarefullytominimizetheamountof
standinghelm.
•Reeftheheadsailandmainsailalittleearlyratherthantoolate.
•InWindVanemodetheautopilotwillreacttolong-termwind
shifts,butwillnotcorrectforshort-termchangessuchas
gusts.
•Ingustyandunsteadyinshoreconditions,itisbesttosail
afewdegreesfurtheroffthewindsothatchangesinwind
directioncanbetolerated.
•AvoidusingAutoTackinconditionswherethewindmayshift
suddenly.
