CHAPTER 1
WATER SPORTS
Besides learning the safety precautions for safe boating, as well as
understanding and knowing required rules and regulations, you are
obligated to be particularly careful around other water sportsman, such
as scuba divers, water skiers, wakeboarders, and fi sherman.
Skin & Scuba Divers
Whenever you see a “Diver Down” ag, maintain
a distance of at least 100 feet on inland waters. In
bays and open waters stay 300 feet away. The fl ag
indicates a diver in the water. If a diver is operating
from your boat, be certain to use this ag and
post a lookout on board for a divers air bubbles.
Sometimes divers stray from the fl ag area.
Water Skiers & Wakeboarders
For information on water skiing and how to get
started, we recommend you contact the American
Water Ski Association, P. O. Box 191, Winter
Haven, Florida 33880. They offer pamphets and
instructional materials.
For wakeboarding information there are numerous
training schools throughout the country along
with instructional videos and the internet.
