9 User management
Since the U-router NGW is running Linux, as a multi-user operating system, several people may be
logged in and actively working on a given machine at the same time. Security-wise, it is never a
good idea to allow users to share the credentials of the same account. In fact, best practices dictate
the use of as many user accounts as people needing access to the U-router NGW. At the same time,
it is to be expected that two or more users may need to share access to certain system resources,
such as directories, files and access to the console ports. User management on the U-router NGW
allows us to accomplish both objectives.
User management is normally performed through the Web GUI. The default user on the system is:
rfi’ with password: ‘rfi123’. Factory default settings for this user are:
Username: rfi
Password: rfi123
Shell: bash
This user cannot be deleted from the web GUI. It is advised to change the default password to a
more secure one during installation of the system.
9.1 Adding a new user
You can add a new user by going to the Users tab and then clicking on the green Add user
button. Choose a username and password for the new user. In the example below the user is
created to have SSH shell login capability.
9.2 Deleting a user
You can delete any user, except user rfi, from the Web GUI. Click on the red ‘Delete User’ button
behind the username to delete the user. There will be a popup asking if you are sure to delete the
user. Once deleted there is no restore function, other than adding the user back using the Add
user function described above.
