If
you
do
not
intend
to
connect
a
MIDI
instrument
to
Setup
with
an
MT-300
the
piano,
you
do
not
need
to
read
this
chapter.
MT-300-
MIDI
MIDI
stands
for
Musical
Instrument
Digital
Interface,
an
international
standard
which
allows
performance
infor-
mation
to
be
communicated
among
electronic
musical
instruments
and
computers.
Connecting
with
MIDI
Devices
The
RD-100
features
two
MIDI
connectors
for
trans-
mitting
and
receiving
performance
messages
to
and
from
an
external
device.
By
connecting
external
devices
Setup
with
a
MIDI
Sequencer
and
Sound
Module
through
these
jacks,
you
can
expand
the
possibilities
of
Aimee
:
your
RD-100.
MIDI
Connectors
The
RD-100
features
two
types
of
MIDI
connectors:
MIDI
OUT
and
MIDI
IN
jacks.
By
connecting
the
piano
to
an
external
MIDI
device
through
these
jacks,
they
can
control
each
other.
For
instance,
you
can
play
an
exter-
en
nal
device
or
change
sounds
on
the
external
device
from

MIDI
OUT
jack:
This
sends
out
messages
describing
actions
(such
as
playing
the
keyboard)
to
the
MIDI
IN
jack
on
the
external
device.
MIDI
IN
jack:
This
receives
the
MIDI
messages
sent
by

external

device.
MIDI
Transmit/Receive
Channels

The
receiving
MIDI
device
will
act
according
to
the
MIDI
messages
received;
such
as
produce
sounds,
change
sounds,
etc.

MIDI
provides
16
channels.
MIDI
messages
are
com-
municated
between
two
devices
over
a
MIDI
channel.
Even

the
two
devices

connected

a
MIDI
cable,
messages
cannot
be
sent
or
received

channels
you
set
are
retained
until
the
piano

switched

“ALL”
is
selected
as
receive
channel,
the
RD-100
will
always
respond
to
incoming
MIDI
messages,
no
matter
what
chan-
nel
these
messages
are
transmitted
on.
