TROUBLESHOOTING
This chapter summarizes the most common problems you could encoun-
ter with your machine. If you are unable to solve the problem with the
information below, visit www.philips.com/support for a list of frequently
asked questions or contact the Philips Saeco hotline in your country. The
contact details can be found in the warranty booklet by-packed separately
or on www.philips.com/support.
Machine actions Causes Solutions
The machine does not switch on. The machine is not connected to the
electric network.
Connect the machine to the electric
network.
The power button is on position "0". Check that the power button is set to "I".
The drip tray gets  lled although
no water is drained.
Sometimes water is drained automati-
cally by the machine into the drip tray
to manage the rinsing of the circuits
and ensure optimum machine perfor-
mance.
This is seen as normal machine
behavior.
The red
icon is always dis-
played on the machine.
The co ee grounds drawer has been
emptied with the machine o .
The co ee grounds drawer must always
be emptied with the machine on. Wait
until the
icon is displayed before
re tting the drawer.
Co ee is not hot enough. The cups are cold. Preheat the cups with hot water.
No hot water is dispensed. The hole of the water dispensing spout
is clogged.
Clean the hole of the dispensing spout
using a pin.
Make sure that the machine is o and
cold before performing this operation.
Co ee does not have enough
crema
(see note).
The blend is unsuitable, co ee is not
freshly roasted or the grind is too
coarse.
Change co ee blend or adjust the grind
as explained in chapter “Adjusting the
Ceramic Co ee Grinder”.
Milk does not froth. The milk carafe is dirty or not inserted
correctly.
Clean the carafe and insert it correctly.
The milk carafe dispenser has not been
correctly pulled out.
Check that the milk dispenser has been
pulled out correctly.
The machine takes a long time to
warm up or the amount of water
dispensed from the wand is too
little.
The machine circuit is clogged by
limescale.
Descale the machine.
The brew group cannot be
removed.
The brew group is out of place. Turn on the machine. Close the service
door. The brew group automatically
returns to the initial position.
The co ee grounds drawer is inserted. Remove the co ee grounds drawer
before removing the brew group.
There is a lot of ground co ee
under the brew group.
Co ee is not suitable for automatic
machines.
It may be necessary to change the type of
co ee or the co ee grinder settings.
The machine grinds the co ee
beans but no co ee comes out.

There is no water. Fill the water tank and prime the circuit
(chapter "Using the Machine for the First
Time").
The brew group is dirty. Clean the brew group ("Weekly Cleaning
of the Brew Group" chapter).
This might occur when the machine is
automatically adjusting the dose.
Brew a few co ees as described in chap-
ter “Saeco Adapting System”.
The circuit is not primed. Prime the circuit (chapter “Using the
machine for the  rst time”).
The dispensing spout is dirty. Clean the dispensing spout.
